For single people, talking about summer holidays can be a bit of a sore point. But if we look at it another way, holidays can be an opportunity to meet new and interesting people, outside our usual and too familiar circle.
Without having to choose a Love Boat style singles cruise, let’s take a look at five holiday ideas that could offer a chance to meet interesting people.
#1 The Balearic Islands
Wonderful sea, same for the beaches, but above all, the Balearic Islands, Ibiza and Formentera, are dotted with clubs, discos, restaurants, bars and any other form of gathering place with drink in hand.
Europe’s summer nightlife capitals, the Balearic Islands are also places where you can enjoy the beach and – with a little less decibel in your ears – deepen a conversation you started the night before.
#2 The music festival
Finally, after two years, real live music will return with concerts and music festivals all over Italy. We propose to organise a mini-vacation during a music festival. There will certainly be an opportunity to meet people who, at least in terms of musical tastes, think like you. And at the very least, you will have listened to some good music!
Among the festivals, in Milan from 9 to 12 June, i-Days will be playing along with Imagine Dragons. In mid-June, Green Day, Muse, Placebo, Metallica will take the stage at Firenze Rock and the Red Hot Chili Peppers will make a great come-back.
#3 A couple of ideas for the more sporty types
Ever set foot on a sailing boat? This is the right opportunity! Some tour operators organise sailing holidays that you can join. Those who suffer from sea-sickness and also those who do not like to share small spaces and could quickly tire of their sailing companions should not consider it…
For those who prefer to keep their feet on the ground, there are trekking excursions with breathtaking views (and that’s not just a figure of speech!). There are many choices: from the Dolomites to the Aeolian Islands, from the Azores to Iceland, from Peru to Tibet.
#4 Group travel
Those who like to stay mostly in the city can choose an organised tour. You reach the location by plane and continue the tour with the group or you can take a road trip by coach. Obviously rhythms, times and travel are all organised and constrained, so if you prefer more freedom, a less structured holiday is better.
The destinations are… endless. Staying in Europe, you can visit Paris and its surroundings, Normandy, Ireland, Portugal or Spain. Beyond Europe, several tour operators organise trips to Dubai, the United States or Japan.
#5 Volunteering trips
A volunteering trip is a great opportunity to discover different cultures and meet interesting people with whom to share values and ideals. It can also be a stimulating experience for personal growth. There are different types of trips where you can offer your knowledge or skills, such as computing, hands-on work, teaching or simply the will to participate in the community and offer your own time.
